Berrien Springs Dam and Fish Ladder

One of the favorite fishing sites along the St. Joseph River. Recent major modifications to the dam include a fish ladder that allows salmon and steelhead to migrate upstream in the fall; return to Lake Michigan in the spring.

Directions:

From old US-31 in downtown Berrien Springs, take Mechanic St to Fish Ladder.

Lake Chapin

Swimming and boating facilities.

 

Oronoko Lakes Recreation Area

Private lakes with boating facilities, picnicking, fishing, and swimming for a fee.

Directions:

I-94 Exit 16, Red Arrow Hwy north 1 mile, then east 7.5 miles on Lake St/Shawnee Rd, then south 1.3 miles on Burgoyne Rd, then east to Oronoko Lakes Campground.

 

Shamrock Park

Located on the banks of the St Joe River, Shamrock Park offers camping, fishing and a boat launch. Open all year.

Directions:

I-94 Exit 28, follow Old US-31 southeast 11 miles, through Berrien Springs and across the St Joe River.
